The National Committee for Latin and Greek has created an eight-minute video that you may wish to share with your students. 7th Annual National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week
March 2-6, 2009, the first full week of the month.
National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week is sponsored by the American Classical League, the American Philological Assocation, as well as regional and state Classics associations. For more details, visit the Official NLTRW Website. Updated for 2009 are free printable posters (scroll down to find "I Want You to Be a Latin Teacher," "Gladiatrices" and "The Top Ten Reasons to Teach Latin"). There are also several new brochures.
This year Ginny Lindzey, who runs the Anima Altera Cafe Press Shop, has created a wide range of NTLRW 2009 items: professional-quality t-shirts, mini-buttons, mugs, greeting cards, posters, and even yard signs available for purchase at cost, with no additional price mark-up. NLTRW's site has provided links to coupon codes to keep the cost of these items affordable.

Is Your Latin Program in Crisis?
Due to problems in the housing market and the recent increases in fuel and grocery prices, many school districts are facing budget cuts and that can sometimes mean cutting programs. All too often, the courses put on the chopping block include art, physical education, music -- and foreign languages.
The Committee for the Promotion of Latin, sponsored by the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, has put together an online Programs in Crisis Kit. For teachers whose programs are facing imminent closure, directions for a letter-writing campaign as well as links to downloadable materials and brochures are provided.
Of course, it's always important to be constantly vigilant in ensuring that Latin and the Classics are valued in your school district. The Committee for the Promotion of Latin and the National Committee for Latin and Greek have lots of resources to help you remind parents, school boards and administrations about the benefits of studying the Classics, including:

6th Annual National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week 2008
National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week is coming up! This year it will be March 3-7, 2008, which is the first full week in March. The theme for this year is Your Future is Our Future. You can find out more about NLTRW, which is sponsored by the American Classical League, the American Philological Association, and other various regional and local classical organziations by visiting the National Committee for Latin and Greek website. There you can read about past celebrations, get ideas for your own promotions, apply for mini-grants, and more!

CPL Online Journal
It's summer and an excellent time to catch up on some professional reading. You may not be aware of it, but the Committee for the Promotion of Latin, sponsored by the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, publishes an online journal, CPL Online.
CPL Online's index shows that the journal covers a diverse range of topics: grammar, oral Latin, reading and translation strategies, sight translation, and pedagogical theory and practice. There are articles on teaching Latin to elementary students and to students with disabilities. If you need mnemonics or songs, CPL Online has those too!
Most are written in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf file) format, so you'll need the Acrobat Reader.
